RELATIONSHIP PATTERNS
You Don’t Just Have Patterns. Your Relationships Do Too.
Each person comes into a relationship with their own learned patterns — expectations, defenses, ways of connecting, ways of protecting themselves. That much is familiar territory.
What’s less obvious is that a relationship doesn’t simply become “your pattern plus their pattern.” When two people come together, the interaction itself creates something — a relationship ecosystem with patterns of its own, patterns that neither person necessarily created alone. That’s why a dynamic can feel so familiar and so confusing at the same time: you recognize it, but you can’t fully locate where it’s coming from.
None of this means the question is “how do I get my partner to change?” That’s not the work here, and it’s not what this page is about. The question that actually leads somewhere is much closer to home:
What pattern am I participating in, and what can I do differently?
Take the Relationship Pattern Assessment
Recognizable relationship experiences can come from a few different underlying patterns. The Assessment helps you identify which one may be operating for you.
Take the Assessment
Understand
Why relationship patterns repeat, and why different relationships can sometimes produce a surprisingly familiar experience.
Recognize
What happens inside you when a particular relationship dynamic gets activated — not what it means about the other person.
Why This Relationship Brings Out a Different Version of You
What it means when a specific relationship activates a side of you that doesn’t usually show up.
Why It’s So Hard to Ask for Help When You’re Always “The Strong One”
On being the capable one, and what it costs to never let yourself be supported.
Why You Keep Trying to Prove You’re Good Enough to Be Loved
On earning, performing, and the exhausting work of trying to deserve love.
Giving Too Much in Your Relationship (And Losing Yourself in the Process)
On over-giving, and what happens when there’s nothing left of you to give.
Change
Understanding your pattern is useful. Changing what you do inside the pattern is where things actually change.
What Can I Actually Do? Changing Your Part in a Relationship Pattern
The practical answer to the question underneath all of this: what can I actually change, if I can’t control another person?
EMPRYNT™: When You’re Ready to Change the Pattern, Not Just Understand It
EMPRYNT™ is the methodology for going beyond recognizing a pattern into actually rewiring it — at the level of the brain and nervous system where patterns are formed and sustained.
